My name is Jonas and I’ve been blogging here since the 12th of December 2007. I’m a hobby blogger with a huge interest in everything Japanese, web design and online social networking.

Back in 2000 I somehow stumbled upon the Dragon Ball manga, which had been out for a couple of months in Sweden at that time. A fine day a few months later I stumbled again, and somehow got my hands on a few of Hamasaki Ayumi’s trance remixes. That day changed my life. I started reading lots of manga, watching anime and exploring the world of Japanese entertainment.

Blogging came to me naturally, I like to write and I love Japan, so why not write about Japanese stuff on a blog? The name “yonasu” (ヨナス) is just another way to write my real name, it’s how I spell my name in Japanese.

What I Do

To put it shortly, I’m a Japan enthusiast who loves Japanese entertainment, an entertainment geek if you will. I spend a lot of time in front of the computer, but I like to think of myself as a healthy person. I’ve studied Japanese for one year at the University of Gothenburg and I’m now studying on my own by using tools like Smart.fm and AJATT.

I’m currently working on becoming a web developer/designer and hope to at some point be able to work in Japan or with Japanese clients. As of today I know HTML/XHTML, CSS and some MySQL. I’m also good with WordPress and Photoshop. Right now I’m learning jQuery and plan to start on PHP in the near future.

Until I’ll be able to give myself the title of web developer I’m working part-time and earning a few extra bucks by helping other bloggers and website owners.

Where I Blog

This is where I do most of my work, I’m usually working on my Mac mini, but as I like the freedom of being able to take work with me on the go, I also have a MacBook. The figure collection is a work in progress, but Kagamiku and mini-Konata are keeping me company when I’m blogging!

Guest Blogging/Collaborations

This is a list of blogs I currently am or have guest blogged on, or do other collaborative work on.

The 69th Department – Hosting, consultant and design customizations.

OTAKUPHONE — Guest uploader of iPhone wallpapers, focusing on Japanese idols. You can see all my uploads by clicking here.

loneleeplanet — Design work.

DumbOtaku — Design work.

Photography

I take photos of Japanese merchandise and life wherever I happen to be at the moment. I try to capture everything Japanese you can find in Sweden and elsewhere when I travel. I use a Panasonic Lumix LX3 for both still photography and video recording. As everything isn’t featured here you might want to connect with me on Flickr.

My Mascots

You might have noticed the orange in the header already, well, that is Guu. Guu is a part of my mascot concept Nami&Guu, a mascot duo of one anime girl and her orange friend. Nami is not a big part of yonasu.com yet, as she’s still a work in progress, but below are some examples of what she looks like.

I did not design these mascots myself, but if you have questions you’re free to contact me via email. If you want your own mascot you can either contact me or contact Dave from Watermelon Studios, and say hi to Dave from me! ;)

History of yonasu.com

This blog has gone through a few big changes since the very beginning, for example I started off with a blog hosted on Blogger and changed the name and URL three or four times until I finally settled down. You can see the previous designs in the slideshow below, watch in fullscreen or click on the images in the slideshow to see them in detail.

Special Thanks

A few people have contributed in various ways to this blog. These people deserve to be mentioned, so here they are.

Ragnar from OTAKUPHONE – Coded one of my previous designs (Built upon ‘ArtSee’ by Elegant Themes). I have now given him the title of design consultant, but he helps me with coding whenever I need it!

Dave from Watermelon Studios – My one and only mascot designer, he knows what I want.

I hope you’ll enjoy yonasu.com!
