Autumn 2008 Drama Highlights

Published on December 18th, 2008.

You’re not missing the currently airing (mostly soon to be finished) dramas, are you? Well, if you are, here are this season’s four highlights. This is not completely based on ratings, it’s what I think, but they are in in fact in the top among some other dramas. I’m also gonna mention some other dramas that might be of interest at the end of this post.

Innocent Love

This romance drama is definitely a must watch of this season. In the main cast you’ll find people like Horikita Maki, Kitagawa Yujin (singer in Yuzu), Uchida Yuki (Bambino!, Quiet Room ni Youkoso) and Narimiya Hiroki (Hachimitsu to Clover, Stand Up!!). The story focuses on the life of two siblings who lost their parents in an arson 7 years earlier. As the brother was accused and arrested as the prime suspect, his little sister’s life became harder which eventually made her to move into the city. There she finds love, which is, for some reason, not good in the eyes of her brother which is later released on probation.

Celeb to Binbo Taro

This is a comedy drama starring our one and only Ueto Aya. The drama tells you about a very rich girl miraculously falling in love with a very poor guy with three kids. When they first met by accident, falling into a hole in the ground, they certainly didn’t expect what was soon going to happen. As the poor Taro eventually had to look for a new job to support his family, he ended up getting the job as Alice’s (the rich girl’s) limousine driver, which was going to change his life drastically.

Ryuusei no Kizuna

Now, the two dramas above certainly has their fair amount of famous faces. This one however has a big bag of famous, but with that I don’t mean that there are 100 famous actors in it. The main characters in Ryuusei no Kizuna are played by Toda Erika, Ninomiya Kazunari and Nishikido Ryo, all which you’ve probably heard of before, right? It tells you the story of three kids whose parents was murdered and their plan of revenge in their later years. While this is mainly a suspense drama, it also provides good romance and lots of funny moments.

Kaze no Garden

This drama tells you about the story of Shiratori Sadami, a respected anesthesiologist at a famous hospital in Tokyo. While his worklife is perfect, his family life is a disaster. Before moving to Tokyo, he caused his wife’s suicide and has since then been separated from his kids. However, seven years later, Shiratori is diagnosed with late-state cancer and decides to come back home to his hometown in Hokkaido, where he lives his last moments with his children. This drama stars Ogata Ken and Kuroki Meisa, two actors who without a doubt does a great job wherever they’re placed.

These four are the highlights of this season but you might also want to keep an eye on Akai Ito, Team Batista no Eiko, Bloody Monday and Scrap Teacher. This has been a very good season overall but I do look forward to the winter season 2009, but more on that another time.

Ho yonasu! I really enjoy visiting your blog. The design is lovely and comforting (with every revamp you seem to amazingly improve it!), the writing style friendly, and the subjects are always sincere. Great work… and Merry Christmas!
