Avatar (no, not THAT Avatar)

Published on November 17th, 2010.

“Avatar” is quickly becoming one of the most overused title for movies. Is there no synonyms for avatar? Anyway…

Avatar is a new horror movie by Atsushi Wada starring Ai Hashimoto. She is a model for Seventeen magazine and made her movie debut in 2009 with the movie Give and Go and recently in Tetsuya Nakashiima’s movie Confession (2010). In Avatar, Ai plays a mundane student name Michiko who becomes addicted to an online social network call SNS (social networking system…I know, creative isn’t it?). Her obsession leads her to try and become her online avatar in real life even through means of plastic surgery. The obsession eventually drives her to commit crimes such as murder all for the sake of a higher status on the site and getting more of the site’s virtual money. The movie is set to release in spring of 2011.

With social network like Facebook and Twitter becoming an everyday part of our lives, this movie seems to portray the twisted outlook of someone whose life is entirely on the social network. Even though it’s a horror movie, I can’t help but give a chuckle thinking of someone committing crimes to get more plots of land on Farmville. Really? Is it that serious? The idea behind it is interesting though so I’m interested to see how it’ll turn out.

This is crazy but I’m totally excited about it! xD I wonder what the gas masks are for though?

I have no idea lol I’m actually more surprise how warm it’s looking in the shots. Usually horror movies have this eerie blue tint on everything. I’m hoping this will be one of those psycho thriller sort of horror movie.

This actually sounds like a pretty interesting movie. It reminds me of that movie Gamer (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1034032/) with Gerard Butler, where he’s controlled by a person and used to play a live action, lethal game. There was also that portion that showed a side game where people let themselves be controlled in something that looked like live action Sims.

That kinda sounds like Liar Game in a way. Gamer sounds like a good movie, but the trailer did not tell me any of that at all : /

It’s one of those movies where the plot is mostly there to drive the action, so as long as you go into it for visual, cheap thrills, then you won’t be disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it is.

Hm… my order of importance for movie is story, acting, visual. So as long as the story is good and the movie moves along nicely, I will like it. Seems interesting though so I’ll check it out.

Likewise, I’m liking the story for Avatar so hopefully Ai Hashimoto will deliver!

For me the order is acting, story, visual. I can’t stand bad acting. Although bad acting can be a good thing sometimes^^

Yeah I kinda flip flop sometimes on that ^^; For me though the story gets my attention, the actors get me in the theatre and the visual makes me stay in the theatre haha.

I’m really picky as you can see.
