Bigger Eyes Make-up

I don’t know about you, but this just totally creeped me out, I know the power of make-up isn’t anything new, but seeing it in action like this is just crazy!

This is probably the most extreme eye enlargement done with only make-up and contact lenses I’ve seen. But I guess it’s because they’ve only done it with one eye, the girl on the right looks half anime/half real.

There are plenty of pictures floating around with minor, and less creepy enhancements, like this below.

So yeah, next time you go out with your friends to do some nanpa, keep your eyes open and stay alert, or you might end up flirting with the real grinch ;)

Update (July 21, 2010)

Another extreme eye make-up, this time of a gyaru.

Definitely has a creepy optical illusion kind of look when it’s only done on one side like that.

Yeah! It’s weirds me out that this can be done even without surgery O.o

Those top images are really weird. I didn’t realize make-up could make that much difference.

Having large looking eyes is also popular in Singapore, but in addition to make-up a lot of women have surgery done to give themselves Caucasian eye folds. It’s interesting how much the idea of beauty has been influenced by popular media (Hollywood, advertising, luxury brand models, etc.).

Yeah, me neither…

Eye surgery seems to be pretty popular in Japan and South Korea as well. I don’t mind though, as long as they don’t turn out too big^^

I don’t see what’s the problem or creepy here, they remind me a bit an Ganguro’s or Yamamba’s suck a shame it isn’t really popular anymore, loved that style.

Uh, we know these are Taiwanese and not Japanese, right? The 台視 network logo appears in the top right in the TV images, and the magazine clipping is entirely in Traditional Chinese.

I’m aware of this, yes :) But it’s a common thing in many Asian countries, so it’s just an example, and a really good one! Guess I should’ve pointed it out though^^;

Hrm… too fake for me.

Have you seen those Purikura machines that have a “big eye” option? You take the photo, and it auto enhances the size of your eyeballs.

Crazy!

oh. my. god.
the craziest part of this make-up comes when one has to wash her eyes off in the evening…

Uwah, I didn’t even think of that. I’d like to watch that process sometime…

Huge in Korea too. It’s nuts what people will do to themselves. -Ravi Shanghavi, Ottawa, Canada

I think these girls where hot, and certainly look better with make up. :D
+1 for enhancement and fake look! Still better than operation.

It looks like they ahve taped their eyes to get a more “earopean” look. Depending on you definition of “make-up” this may or may not fit into that.

it is not just to get “men” it is to fit into the western colonial view of “beauty.”

Yeah they probably have taped them, but I count that as part of make-up^^ And I think it’s more of a self-confidence thing rather than being beautiful in front of men actually. That and what you said^^

its horrific, perfect beauty does not need make-up on my opinion

That’s true, but it’s very hard to find perfect beauty. I like the subtle make-up, you know, when you don’t really see it, but it makes wonders. I don’t like fake tans and silver eye-shadow (a.k.a. ganguros).
