Design, Fashion & Architecture

During the time I was away, DHL tried to deliver my order from YesStyle.com. So yesterday I had to call them to get it redelivered, and today I finally got my hands on it!

The package was delivered safely by a very cute girl named Johanna :3

I’m very satisfied with this order I must say, everything but the free YesStyle t-shirt fits perfectly! My favorite item is definitely the harem pants seen in the picture above, they’re incredibly comfortable and nice! [click to continue…]

My workspace has finally gotten its long-awaited upgrade! Last time I updated my desk it looked like this (click). Since then I’ve been wanting to add some more lights and get rid of unnecessary cables. I also got rid of the curtains, since I’m not a big fan of hiding a big beautiful window. And I like to wake up with the room lit up by the morning sun, so I got wooden Venetian blinds at IKEA.

This update really made a huge difference to the overall feel of the room, especially getting rid of the curtains and adding the lights on top of the glass shelf. [click to continue…]

Some of you probably know about the fashion blog I used to run on higashifashion.com. It didn’t last long because it was too much work for me to keep two self-hosted WordPress blogs up and running at the same time. But now I have the “yonasu Network” (lame name) thanks to Tumblr which makes everything fast and simple, so therefore I’ve revived Higashi Fashion as well (Long Live Kameism relaunch mentioned here).

It’s a bit different content-wise but it’s still all about Asian fashion, with lots of eye candy and recommendations (no long boring texts^^). So if you like Asian fashion or just like looking at pretty girls and boys, you can subscribe to the RSS feed, or follow it via Tumblr.

These Tumblr blogs are very different compared to my main blog here. They all have short posts (except for my Japanese blog from time to time maybe) with lots of photos. They’re a bit spammy from time to time, but not in a bad way at least in my opinion ;)

For quite some time now, I’ve had plans to start using my mascots more. And as you might have noticed, I’ve made the blog a little bit smaller to fit in lower resolutions, and therefore, I had to contact my mascot designer Dave from Watermelon Studios, and ask him for a new banner ad.

Luckily for me, Dave surprised me with four new variations of Guu! And since he was already going at it, I asked for more so I could finally start using Guu to his full potential. In total, I now have 14 variations, and they will be used in the top right of posts to display a mood and/or category. So when you see Guu having a nosebleed, you’re likely reading a post with some yummy idol pictures. [click to continue…]

The Japanese architects continue to impress me, you might have seen the Fukuyama Dentist Clinic before, and maybe the Sosushi Sushi Bar in Turin (by Italian architects though), this time it’s a house named “House H” by Sou Fujimoto Architects.

Via CubeMe:

Fujimoto seized the opportunity to extend his research into the potential of primitive forms to create complex responses to contemporary needs. Its new experiment was to find a balance between volumes, spaces and light.
Dealing innovatively with Japan’s strict plot ratio regulations, Fujimoto has avoided the conventions of creating a courtyard or of setting a house as an isolated object within the site boundary. Instead it is a hybrid; a series of boxes in boxes that define domestic realm, enclosure and interior.

I’ve been very much into the all-white approach lately, but unfortunately when you have a mother at home you can’t do whatever you like with your space, but I did paint my walls white^^

Stairs up to the roof? Hell yeah! I think it would be good with some kind of fence on the edges though…

Super clean place, love the frosted glass behind the couch too, but where’s the TV?

House_H_Tokyo_Sou_Fujimoto_Architects4

I’d turn that into a jacuzzi since I don’t have any kids.

Just by looking at these pictures it makes my stomach tingle, glass floor? I’d be both excited and scared to step on that^^

Wood and white always works, not a big fan of the dark dinner table though.

Suicide stairs?

It’s a very cool house, but nowhere I’d want to be in an earthquake, I wouldn’t feel safe anywhere with glass floors and suicide stairs. What about you? Would you stay here if you got the chance?

Sosushi Turin 1

Well designed sushi bars, and stores in general are pretty rare in my neck of the woods. I only know of one sushi bar here that has a more modern look, all the other ones seem to be aiming for the traditional looking but westernized design. Of course that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I love me some good modern design.

This is one of the Italian based Sosushi sushi bars. Sosushi has around 20 or so bars spread all over Italy and they all have very cool modern designs (I might feature some of the other ones in the future). This one in particular can be found in Turin (Torino), it’s a new project (2009) made possible by the also Italian based architectural office UAU.

Magenta isn’t really my favorite color but it does go very well with white and the plexwood they’re using. We’re painting the living room at the moment and going for white, purple and oak parquet floors, but it will not look anything like this :P

Sosushi Turin 4

Of course with this design you’d expect the sushi to be quite expensive, seeing as there’s only about 10 seats available, and yes, that is the case. It’s not extremely expensive, but more than I usually pay, see for yourself in the menu below.

What do the sushi bars in your neck of the woods look like?

Higashi Fashion

Back from a short break as you might have noticed. The past few days I’ve been working on a new blog that I launched earlier today. It’s an Asian fashion blog going by the name Higashi Fashion. It’s a team blog (although I’m currently looking for writers) accepting guest posts from anyone interested in Asian fashion. So if you’re interested in writing about fashion, you’re welcome to do so at Higashi Fashion!

If you have some free time and are willing to help a bit, spread the word :)

Thanks!

Every single day I find something interesting that is worth to be bookmarked. Those bookmarks end up on my Delicious account, and I don’t know about you, but that’s just not the place where I look for stuff on a regular basis (other than on my own account that is). So I’d like to give some of those links some exposure here on my blog. If you still want more, you could either subscribe to my Delicious RSS feed, or add me to your network there. I try to only add high quality links there, and I write notes for every link so that you really know what you’re clicking on.

I’ll write posts like this every once in a while, the frequency depends on how many interesting things I find. All of these links aren’t related to Japan, the categories varies in each post.

A few days ago I ordered a few badges, 7 to be exact, from Fat Statement. Making badges on Fat Statement is very easy and fun to do, you can add your own pictures (like I usually do), choose from the available symbols and add your own text. Since it’s hard to find official badges from artists, communities etc., this is definitely the easiest way to get your hands dirty, with badges…

The colors are great and they stay in good condition, unless you’re continually scratching them with your keys or expose them to heavy rain too often.

Visit fatstatement.com to create your own!

As many of you already know, I wanted to go to Japan in August this year, I guess I still do but now I’ve found an event in October-November that I want to attend. The event is called Tokyo Designer’s Week and is one of the major design events in Tokyo. Last year, over 85 000 came to visit, including design professionals and general public.

The main venue (Jingu-Gaien) is located in the heart of Tokyo, the Aoyama area, and will hold 3 major exhibitions, 100% Design Tokyo, 100% Futures and the Container Designing Town.

The 100% Design Tokyo exhibition is Japan’s premier contemporary interiors event, it made it’s debut in 2005 and became a highly respected design event both in the international and domestic design community.

The 100% Futures is an established student exhibition in Tokyo Designer’s Week, but it hasn’t been as big as it’s going to be this year. This year’s exhibition has evolved into various collaboration projects between schools and companies, all of which have their own theme.

The Container Designing Town is the theme for the 2008 Container Exhibition Ground and is going to be a place where various brands, organizations and embassies coexist like in a town to attract and fulfill excited visitors.

This year there will also be exhibitions in shops, galleries and showrooms all around Tokyo. And last but not least, an exhibition held in the Akasaka venue called the Zero Exhibition where you can discover new and young talented designers.

I don’t have a travel partner yet so if you’re interested, feel free to contact me anytime.
