Edison no Haha

While I did mention this drama about a year ago, in the Winter 2008 Drama Preview, I didn’t actually watch it until now. And I sincerely regret that, because this drama definitely made it to my top 10 of all time.

Edison no Haha is a drama about a kid named Hanafusa Kento (played by Shimizu Yuya) who together with his mother moves from Akita, where he was treated as a problem child in school. In his new school he is at first welcomed with warm hearts, although that’s about to change as Kento becomes a problem once again. Even though he’s causing a lot of trouble, there are some who believe that Kento is actually a genius. As a matter of fact, Kento is a very curious boy whose dream is to become an inventor, but he’s not fit for the regular Japanese schools as he can’t stay quiet, and just does what he feels like all the time. But to keep him from being expelled is his inexperienced hometeacher Ayukawa Noriko (played by Ito Misaki), and an highly educated man named Miura, who wants Kento to become a true genius (played by Tanihara Shosuke). Together they work as hard as they can to make Kento’s dream come true.

I really enjoyed this drama, Ito Misaki just keeps growing on me and this is definitely my favorite drama with her in it. Tanihara Shosuke who’s actually Ito Misaki’s ex-boyfriend in this drama, is also really great, especially when the two are fighting, he doesn’t really care about what he says, which makes for some very funny moments. 8-year-old Shimizu Yuya is one I’m going to continue to follow as well, I’ve seen two of his three dramas so far, those being this one and Celeb to Binbo Taro.

I really do recommend this drama, if you’re not that much of a fan of Ito Misaki, give this a try and see if it’ll change your mind. Oh and also, the kid in yellow who blew up is from this drama, let’s see if you can find him!

I started watching some of the first few episodes, thanks to your suggestion, and I love it :)~ It made me think A LOT (so confusing D:~), laugh, and almost-cry XD. Very touching. Can’t wait to finish it.

Ahh… Watch lists, they’re always impossible to keep up with, so I don’t really have one anymore ^^

The theme is poignant of sensei dramas but not as fanciful as the mainstream ones. I have a feeling that you might also like “Jyoou no Kyoushitsu” or Queen’s classroom of 2005.
An added bonus here is the 2part special. Not spoiling anything, let us just say that is some dark satire.

I love teacher dramas, and I watched the first episode yesterday. As winter break is starting tommorow – this is a MUST.

Thanks for recommendation!

No I haven’t seen that one yet actually, but it is on my imaginary to watch list! Ito Misaki and Fukada Kyoko together is a rare sight ^^

Its utter fun. Plays with the OL stereotype. Hmmm.. The anatomy jokes are a plenty for the male audiences but I think that show was targeted for female laughs. But it was a very fun show nonetheless.
