Happy 21st Birthday Eri!
Now you guys most likely know who my favorite idol is by now, seeing as that question was recently answered in the 2-year giveaway post. Well, it’s that day of the year again. While most people are celebrating emperor Akihito’s birthday, I’m spending the day watching/listening to/feeling anything Eri I can find.
Starting off the day with looking through Eri’s six solo photobooks, of course while listening to her solo and Morning Musume songs.
Kamei Eri 1st Photobook – Kamei Eri
Eri’s first photobook is the only one where she has black hair which is a bit sad. I’d love to see her going back to black one day, or at least stay with dark brown.
Kamei Eri 2nd Photobook – Days
Ah yeah, the short-haired Eri. Almost all of the Hello! Project girls go through this change at least once. I think it fits Eri really well, but after seeing her in her two latest photobooks I don’t want her to go back to this look.
Kamei Eri 3rd Photobook – 17
I think it was after this photobook I launched the fan site Long Live Kameism!, which listed Eri fans and had quite a big glossary of Eri vocabulary. Words like thunder thighs, kameizing and kameism were and still are often used by Eri fans. Kameism is the Eri fans’ religion, when we pray we don’t pray to Kami-sama (god), we pray to Kame-sama. Eri is our goddess.
Kamei Eri 4th Photobook – Love Hello! Kamei Eri Photobook in Phuket
Not my favorite photobook but I remember using it a lot for forum avatars and signatures. The most amazing thing is the change she went through in less than a year. This photobook was released in February 2007, just try to imagine how crazy we all went when she released her next photobook in October 2007.
Kamei Eri 5th Photobook – MAPLE
MAPLE was a major milestone and it’s still my favorite photobook. When someone asks me to define beauty, my answer is simply “MAPLE”. This photobook was actually shot in Canada, not sure exactly where but the scenery is stunning.
Kamei Eri 6th Photobook – 20 (hatachi)
Hatachi is a really nice photobook, I especially like her wearing that colorful kimono. Be prepared though, when browsing through this photobook, especially if fishnet stockings is your cup of tea.
A Taste of Eri
While of course some of her photobooks are considered as gems of her career, let’s look at some popular scenes that Eri fans will forever remember.
Eri trying to explain that she ate her dog’s food.
Aho Kame (Idiot Kame)
What is the next delicious good after Shiitake? (Japanese mushroom)
Eri fails a memory game.
Eri singing 100 kai no KISS.

Eri and the Watermelon
Well, these are just some of the amazing moments we’ve had so far with our beloved goddess Eri. Let’s just hope she doesn’t graduate from Morning Musume too soon, and that she continues to work in one way or another in the entertainment business when she does.
Once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAME-CHAN! And Merry Christmas!
