The best part is that I know almost all of these, haha. I’m such a sucker for 70′s and 80′s J-pop :3

      lol. I’m not surprised about SMAP :) KimuTaku….YES :D
My Arashi is high on the list too. They are just behind SPEED and KinKi Kids. I really only like one SPEED song, its from the drama “Itazura na kiss” from the 90s. I <3 KinKi Kids though. :D

Yeah it was pretty obvious SMAP would be #1^^ I love them!

I was never a fan of SPEED either but I’m a big fan of Naoko Kawai, Koizumi Kyoko, Seiko Matsuda, Pink Lady, Toshihiko Tahara, Agnes Chan and many more on that list :P

  • Jazle

I love this list and how they have included so many 70′s and 80′s signatories. I wonder if it is inflation adjusted because I do not see the usual suspects like Ayu and Utada on this.

You may want to readjust the figure for “Hiromi Go (郷ひろみ) – 17,780,000″ because it probably should be 15,780,000. :-)

you know what, I think you are like the only person to notice that. lol. In ALL the places this list has been posted, its the same number. I’ve been searching for the list everywhere and can’t seem to find the proper sales total.
But you are right, it must be 15.

And yea, I was surprised to see that Utada, Ayu, Koda Kumi etc are not on the list. But I thought it was interesting enough to share. :D

Well, I’d say Ayu, Utada and Koda Kumi aren’t on the list because they’re not considered to be idols. It’s difficult to know where to draw the line, but I think they’re considered to be (pure?) artists, musicians.

Ayu has sold quite a bit more than SMAP^^

    • http://twitter.com/Ami1982 Amy

really? I didn’t know that. well, you learn something new every day. :) That makes more sense now, because I was pretty certain Ayumi would be at the top/near the top.

At first I was where is Hikki then I read idols ><
I know quite a few names even the 80's idols, Matsuda Seiko is still popular. And no suprise about Smap being #1and Arashi. 2010 was Arashi's year.

  • Angel

Do you have a link for the whole show please ? I’m looking for it, but can’t find it :(
