I think it’s time for another selection of oldies! I previously made a list 10 J-pop songs of the 80′s, so now I’m going back a few years and then probably jumping all the way to the 90′s for the next list. Enjoy!
JinnyOops! accidentally rocked your socks off in 1 minute and 15 seconds. You should thank them. — SparkPlugged
I couldn’t express myself any better, so I went with a quote. But wow, did JinnyOops! rock my socks off (even though I wasn’t wearing any!). I hadn’t even turned down the volume from last night, and this was before my early morning coffee. But this song completely removed every drowsy cell in my body, it felt like a brainwash (I think). Last time I heard a song by a comedian (it’s pretty common for Japanese comedians to sing) was when Onna Lovely (Satoshi Kanada a.k.a. SATO-PU) released Onara Hazukashikunaiyo (“farts aren’t embarrasing” basically). And while I liked that song and is a big fan of Satoshi Kanada, Kimi wa Kyonshi (“you are an hopping vampire”) by Citrus Lavender has been remixed by RAM RIDER, who’s an amazing producer.
Kimi wa Kyonshi definitely turned into something great! It is childish, but it’s also funny, cute and weird so how could you not like it? My favorite part is between 2:44 and 3:15, what’s yours? [Video after the break]
“Wow!” is quite the right word for this Swedish girl who’s just about to release her debut album in Japan. Frida Sundemo is her name and she’s from Gothenburg, just like me. Frida has a very sweet voice that she combines with a playful, happy pop sound that actually derives from a more complex reality, which makes her lyrics really great. Frida has been working with music for a long time, but about three years ago she got herself her very first music studio. Three years later, after experimenting with different sounds, she has found the right thing for her and is now working with @ Victor Entertainment. Frida’s debut album “Dear, Let it out” will be released on June 23. Video after the break…
Came across this band called Sekai no Owari (End of the World) the other day and wow, they’re good! Sekai no Owari released their first full-length album, EARTH, earlier this month which includes the two embedded songs in this post. The band was formed already in 2007 and they started from scratch with doing live performances at club EARTH in Tokyo. The only cd they released before 2010 is a mini-album with an unknown release date.
I just love their sound, but I can’t really put it to words, it’s like, you’d get something like this if you put school food punishment and Sakanaction together, or something… Either way, really cool! The main singer, Kei Fukase, has this amazing soft voice that is just perfect. But I guess that tends to be my thing when it comes to male singers, being a fan of both Kazumasa Oda and Hideaki Tokunaga^^ [click to continue…]
Riisa, what the hell are you doing? First off, Zebra Queen? Seriously? I get that it’s coming from the upcoming movie Zebra Man 2, but how cheesy is that? And the music itself isn’t any better.
I can’t help but think of Lady Gaga when I see this, it’s just screaming “z, z, z, z, zebra face!”, oh the horror. At least she’s got the looks, although she does look like a crazy witch sometimes… [click to continue…]
After taking up smoking as a minor and jumping in bed with a middle-aged man and totally screwing her fans over, Ai Kago is back in the business. She’s been doing all kinds of things lately, she’s been in an Hong Kong movie, published a book, lived in Los Angeles, thought about suicide and the list goes on.
As for her music, she released a J-pop single in June 2009 called “no hesitAtIon”, and just last month she released AI KAGO meets JAZZ, an English album with covers of popular jazz songs (+1 Japanese cover).
Ai Kago – no hesitAtIon
I can’t say that I’ve ever been a big fan of Kago, but I did enjoy watching her and Tsuji goofing around back in the days. Her scandals didn’t make things any better, but this jazz album might actually be the thing that can turn things around. My expectations of this album were very low, but Kago really shows that she has become a completely different person, she’s nothing like the Kago we saw in Hello! Project. [click to continue…]
I’m tiny like a door mouse, short like a bungalow house, but I’m pretty big in Tokyo. — That right there would be part of the lyrics of the newly released song Tiny Japanese Girl by Savlonic. If you can get by the lousy lyrics of this song, the artwork is pretty cool! As for the song itself, well, can’t say I’m a huge fan, mainly because of the dude’s voice, but also since I’ve never really liked this classic electro (ish) style.
I don’t know about you, but if I were to add a poll again like I did in the Beckii Cruel post, I’d give this a thumbs down. I wonder if short Japanese girls feel offended… [click to continue…]
I was eventually going to have to mention Beckii Cruel, so here’s me getting it over with, or am I?
Honestly I didn’t even bother with giving her a chance when I first heard about her, but for some reason I decided to just give DANJO a listen to see what she’s like. I was a bit weirded out on the first listen, but then I started looping it since I found the “danjo danjo jo jo dan jo dan dan jo” parts really catchy. There’s no excuse for her incredibly bad Japanese, but I do find it pretty cute^^ Hopefully she’ll get better though, since I prefer my idols speaking good Japanese at least outside of the recording studio.
I’ve been a little busy the past two days because of the purchase of a new computer, which I’ll post about tomorrow! So in the meantime, I’d like to give you a few minutes of pleasure for your ears.
This is the PV of chaqq’s GOOD DAY! from their album Pleasure which is set to be released on April 21.
