Came across this band called Sekai no Owari (End of the World) the other day and wow, they’re good! Sekai no Owari released their first full-length album, EARTH, earlier this month which includes the two embedded songs in this post. The band was formed already in 2007 and they started from scratch with doing live performances at club EARTH in Tokyo. The only cd they released before 2010 is a mini-album with an unknown release date.
I just love their sound, but I can’t really put it to words, it’s like, you’d get something like this if you put school food punishment and Sakanaction together, or something… Either way, really cool! The main singer, Kei Fukase, has this amazing soft voice that is just perfect. But I guess that tends to be my thing when it comes to male singers, being a fan of both Kazumasa Oda and Hideaki Tokunaga^^ [click to continue…]
I’ve been a little busy the past two days because of the purchase of a new computer, which I’ll post about tomorrow! So in the meantime, I’d like to give you a few minutes of pleasure for your ears.
This is the PV of chaqq’s GOOD DAY! from their album Pleasure which is set to be released on April 21.
Leo Imai released his third album last week and it’s something I think you should get your hands on! This guy is seriously about to become my favorite artist, he’s so freaking cool!
If you haven’t heard any of his music, check out these two videos from his new album. You should also take a look at his second album Fix Neon which is simply amazing.
Finally something new from LEO Imai! I’ve posted about him before featuring his video Tokyo Lights 2 which is an awesome song. I really like this guy because he has an interesting unique style, both when it comes to the actual music, and the music videos. Synchronize will be released on the 29th of January and I’ll be sure to get myself a copy.
As we all know, ELLEGARDEN disbanded a while ago since they were no longer able to make an album they would be satisfied with. The members are now focusing on their own individual musical careers. And as it seems, Takeshi Hosomi, the lead singer, is pursuing a solo career on a new label, namely For Life Music Entertainment.
He’s currently working on the album so I don’t know of any details. But if you want to follow him, his MySpace channel is the place to be.
Finally we get some satisfaction from our one and only YUI! “I’ll be” is YUI’s new promo PV for her upcoming compilation album, “MY SHORT STORIES”, which is set to be released on November 12.
EDIT: Sorry, the video has been removed from the internetz, here’s a few other videos you can watch instead.
flumpool is a newly formed Japanese rock band with four members. They made their major debut with their single, “Hana ni Nare”, which was released on October 1. The debut will be followed by a second digital single on November 5, and a mini-album on November 19. The mini-album includes both the two singles and their indies.
“Hana ni Nare” is their best song so far, in my opinion (see video), but I’m looking forward to their next releases.
Moving on with some more Japanese artists with English lyrics. Anna Tsuchiya released her new video, “GINGER”, a few days ago. The song features Monkey Majik which is one of my favorite bands and the band I usually introduce newbies to. This is actually the first time I see them featured in someone else’s song though!
Anna Tsuchiya has a very interesting personality, both as an artist and as an actress, and I think that is what makes her so great. Check out her video for “Virgin Cat” while you’re at it (link below).
Next month (November 12), moumoon will release their first full-length album. The album is self-titled and comes in both CD and CD+DVD versions. Check out the embedded video and the links at the end of this post.
From Last.fm
moumoon is a japanese pop-rock duet composed by vocalist/lyricist Yuka and guitarist/composer Masaki Kohsuke. The band’s name consists of the French word mou (tender) and the English word moon. Their debut mini album “Flowers” was released in 2006. Before the mini album, they had released a pre-debut single which featured two of the tracks included on their upcoming single.
In 2007, moumoon was signed to Avex Trax, and the second mini,”love me?” album was released. The band performed their first tv live for the song “SWEET HEART”. As a result moumoon began to steadily gathering interests and fans.
This week’s featured artist is not very well known, and that’s one of the reasons why I’m bringing him up here. His name is Leo Imai and he was born in Tokyo in 1981. His father is Japanese and his mother is Swedish, and that might be the reason why he was brought up in London instead of Tokyo. Before he started his music career, he studied at SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) and at the university of Oxford.
Leo made his debut in Japan in 2006, with an indie album called ‘City Folk’. He later next year played his music at the Summer Sonic Festival. Shortly after the festival he made his major debut through EMI Music. In February 2008 he released his first major debut album ‘FIX NEON’.
I think this guy is underappreciated, he has a great voice and a very unique style, a style that is a bit crazy, but in a good way. His lyrics are in both English and Japanese, and he makes it sound really good. I strongly recommend listening to his album ‘FIX NEON’, my favorite tracks on it are ‘Tokyo Lights 2′ and ‘Emergency’.
