After days of backing up, moving files, exporting and importing databases and talking to the support team on both the old and the new web host, yonasu.com is finally running smoothly on the new servers. I changed the nameservers yesterday morning however, so it might not work just yet in some parts of the world, as it can take up to 48 hours to update everywhere.
So let’s talk a bit about the current and previous web hosts. yonasu.com was previously running on hosting from One.com using their cheapest option, $1.5/month for 3000 MB space, 1 MySQL database and unlimited everything else (data, FTP, mail accounts etc.). Basically, you get a whole lot of web hosting for 1.5 bucks a month. And their hosting is great, so it’s not like I’ve moved because I’ve had issues with it or anything. My main reason for moving is that you can’t use more than one top-level domain (.com, .net, .org etc.) on one account. So with One.com you’re basically supposed to run only one site per account. This is not the best solution for me as I need to pay for multiple accounts which also makes things more difficult to manage.
One.com is great for bloggers though, if you’re looking for a new web host, definitely give it a look. I’ve referred several people to them, one of them being hikky who’s running austrian otaku!
The new web host is a web host I’ve used before, although not for yonasu.com, namely Binero. Binero is a Swedish web host that has won the title as “best web host” two years in a row. It wasn’t possible for me to run yonasu.com on Binero until early March this year, as they didn’t have a service that was offering enough space and data. Their new deals offer 100 GB or 200 GB space depending on the package and more than enough data. I’m paying $8.5/month for the “small” package.
This move doesn’t really mean anything to you (my readers), it’s mostly a back-end thing that is more future proof and easy for me to manage. I might roll out some site updates soon however as I have a couple of ideas, but that’s all I have to say for now.
In case you have any questions about hosting or anything else for that matter, give me a holla in the comments section below. If not, well, then updates will be rolling out as usual from now on!
Also, if you notice anything weird on the site that might have been caused by the move, please let me know so I can fix it :)

glad to see you blogging again again and happy the transition to the new sever/host was a success.
I pay a little bit more than you about $120 a year for hosting but I get unlimited space and host over a dozen sites for myself and friends.
Thanks!
As for space, 100 GB is more than enough for me, I’m only using about 1.2 GB now :P Where are you hosting Jamaipanese.com?
Work so far for me. No error reported, sir ^^.
Sweet!
I’ll have to keep One.com in mind if I decide to start self-hosting my blog, that sounds like a pretty good deal for my needs.
Yeah, it’s good enough for most bloggers, definitely one of the best if you’re only going to run one.
Thanks a lot for the recommendation! I’ve been hosting my other blog aucifer.org on my own computer so far but it’s sort of a drag that if my internet cuts off or something, so does the site, and I have to limi my torrent upload speed so browsing the site isn’t a nightmare. I think I might just try out one.com. Thanks again!
Ah, that seems like a lot of work just for a blog actually. Is your connection any good? When you start getting a lot of readers, a regular old 10mbit ADSL line won’t do anymore :P
But yeah, give One.com a try :)
Happy to have you as our customer, Yonasu ;)

Erik
