Rest In Peace Apple Keyboard

Just about 3 months ago I got myself a brand new wireless Apple Keyboard, you know the insanely expensive slim Apple keyboard ($100+). It has served me well but today I bring sad news, yesterday morning it passed on.

Dead Wirless Apple Keyboard

As we all know, this is the best keyboard on the market, so you can imagine how heartbreaking this is to see for me. I’m almost causing another flood over this crappy Fujitsu Siemens keyboard, a flood of my own tears that is. Well there’s nothing I can do about it now so I’m gonna have to try to forget about it. I’m gonna need a replacement of course, and I think I’m going for the same keyboard, although wired this time. One of the worst things I know is cables, but since the wired keyboard has 2 built-in USB ports I’ll be able to get rid of my current USB hub. That hub actually causes more of a mess than what a wired Apple keyboard would do.

If you want to help a brother out, you can donate money to my PayPal address, me@yonasu.com. Don’t take what I just said seriously though^^

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Apple’s warranty on keyboards lasts longer then 3 month… Did you talk to Apple about this?

The warranty doesn’t cover accidents like this and if I lie and tell them that it just broke and they find that it’s because of some liquid, they can charge me for it.

Anyways, as some have said, waiting for one day might not be enough, I’ll wait another 2-3 days and see if it’ll resurrect.

Ah, got it, thought you meant it broke by itself somehow – didn’t catch that you peed on it ^_^;

WTF? How did it break? I was actually thinking about to buy one, but now… I don’t know anymore. My cheap ass keyboards always lasted for at lest 4-5 years each. Did it break from normal usage? Did you drop it? HOW? It just felt into peaces while typing? To you type hard(pressing buttons hard)? Why do you still think it’s the best on the market? I think it’s the best looking but maybe not the best.

It is the best on the market in my opinion. I caused this problem myself, let’s just say it’s not waterproof :)

That sucks! I have a wired, full Apple keyboard and I don’t think I can ever be without it from now on.

As for the hub, Apple’s USB ports on their keyboards don’t actually have enough power to be able to use it for iPods and iPhones. It ticked me off at first, but I learned to live with it.

Oh really? I don’t think they’re any different from my USB hub though, seeing as it’s only connected to one of the ports in the MacBook with no extra power supply.

The USB ports on my new wired Apple keyboard works with my iPhone, syncing as we speak, I also have my Microsoft Arc mouse connected at the same time. So maybe there’s something wrong with yours?

Any news? Did you try it again since then? If it’s definetly broken try disembling it and see if you see any faults inside.

It doesn’t click on keys on its own anymore but a few keys still don’t work. Will give it some more time.

Hm, really? I just checked again and still no go with both my iPhone and iPod Classic. I looked it up in case there was something wrong with mine, but apparently a lot of people have the same issue. I’ll have to try resetting my ports eventually to see if that fixes it.

Yup, works perfectly for me. Maybe it’s something they fixed with the newest keyboards? It does say on the box that it requires Snow Leopard… Also, what are you connecting it to? If it’s an older Mac that might be the reason?

Yeah, I just noticed people said the USB ports only have enough juice when hooked up to a newer Mac, so that explains it (I’m on a 2006 MBP). Good thing I already have a handy USB hub to hide behind my mStand!
