When I was in Tokyo in January, I stayed at a hotel in Hanzomon. Hanzomon is located in the Chiyoda ward, where smoking in public is banned. If a policeman were to see you walking around with a cig in your hand, you could even be fined for it. Next up is McDonald’s which has over 3500 stores in Japan, they’re now starting to ban smoking as well, one store at a time. McDonald’s previously had non-smoking areas in their restaurants, although they were only divided by lines on the floors.
This trend is increasing rapidly, you see smoking areas marked out on the streets in Shibuya and rather than walking around with the cig, you’re supposed to do it outside of convenience stores, where you’re usually allowed to do it. [click to continue…]

After taking up smoking as a minor and jumping in bed with a middle-aged man and totally screwing her fans over, Ai Kago is back in the business. She’s been doing all kinds of things lately, she’s been in an Hong Kong movie, published a book, lived in Los Angeles, thought about suicide and the list goes on.
As for her music, she released a J-pop single in June 2009 called “no hesitAtIon”, and just last month she released AI KAGO meets JAZZ, an English album with covers of popular jazz songs (+1 Japanese cover).
I can’t say that I’ve ever been a big fan of Kago, but I did enjoy watching her and Tsuji goofing around back in the days. Her scandals didn’t make things any better, but this jazz album might actually be the thing that can turn things around. My expectations of this album were very low, but Kago really shows that she has become a completely different person, she’s nothing like the Kago we saw in Hello! Project. [click to continue…]

It was raining pretty bad on my second day in Tokyo but I managed to walk around Chiyoda-ku for about 4.5 hours before it got too cold.
This crossing is just next to Hanzomon station. Not sure what those yellow lines are for, any ideas?
More lines I don’t understand, but I guess those are for cars.
Fire department just a couple of minutes from the hotel.
First fashion/brand ad spotted, not much around Chiyoda-ku. [click to continue…]
