Trailer for Avatar

The trailer for the movie Avatar starring Ai Hashimoto is out! Here’s a little bit more info about it from a previous post. There’s also an official website for it now which is where I got the screen-grab below from. The movie centers around Hashimoto’s character, Michiko, who is socially awkward but gains popularity through an online network called AvaQ. With newfound power, she exacts revenge on those who had hurt her before, but loses herself in the process.

It’s a bit of a darker version of The Social Network mixed in with some Mean Girls. I initially thought it’s a story about the dark side of social networking giants like Facebook and what it can cause someone to do when they’re depending on it for popularity, and so far my assumption seems to be correct. Michiko gets a cell-phone from her mother and from there she is invited into the AvaQ network by a classmate name Taeko. Taeko would be the “mean girl” in the story who would act like your friend but put arsenic in your school lunch. Michiko eventually becomes more popular than she is on the social network and in real life as well. She also gets a little crazy it seems.

And I still have no idea what’s with the masks.

Definitely looking forward to it, Ai Hashimoto was great in Kokuhaku :) I don’t expect this to be as good as that was though…

That was the movie she debut with right? The way she changes from meek girl to crazy-manipulating girl in the trailer is kinda awesome. I think it’ll be a pretty good movie, but not a great one.

Yeah I think that was her movie debut.
