WD My Passport Essential 320GB

Published on June 14th, 2008.

I just got on of these little external hard drives from Western Digital a couple of days ago, so now it’s time to tell you all what I think of it. Since I have a white MacBook I chose to buy the white 320GB version. This disk replaced my old Lacie 500GB 3.5″ external hard drive.

Actually, I don’t really have a lot to say about this new hard drive other than that I’m really satisfied with it. It looks really nice with my MacBook and it’s super silent, I can’t hear it unless I put it next to my ear, and even then it’s very silent. It weighs pretty much nothing and it’s really small. As for speeds, it’s definitely fast enough, I didn’t notice any difference between my 3.5″ Lacie and the 2.5″ WD. Some might think that the USB cable is a bit short, its about 30-40 centimeters, I wouldn’t want it to be any longer though.

The disk comes in many different colors, we have black and white (obviously), blue, red, orange, yellowand the list goes on…

I can’t say anything about the durability yet, I’m not planning to take it with my anywhere either, but I don’t really trust hard drives for very long when you carry them around. It’s a bit pricy though, I could’ve gotten a new 500GB 3.5″ for less, but for me, design, size and noise level are my top priorities.

I would recommend this disk to anyone who’s in need of an external hard drive!
