Room/Workspace Update

My workspace has finally gotten its long-awaited upgrade! Last time I updated my desk it looked like this (click). Since then I’ve been wanting to add some more lights and get rid of unnecessary cables. I also got rid of the curtains, since I’m not a big fan of hiding a big beautiful window. And I like to wake up with the room lit up by the morning sun, so I got wooden Venetian blinds at IKEA.

This update really made a huge difference to the overall feel of the room, especially getting rid of the curtains and adding the lights on top of the glass shelf.

The Venetian blinds ended up being the only thing I bought at IKEA, except for some batteries. It was 45 bucks at the Swedish Store. Here’s a link to it if you’re interested in buying one yourself, it’s available in three colors.

The lights (top of the shelf) is from a store called Chili, I went to three other stores (including IKEA) before I finally found something I liked. They’re called Titania and have built in dimmers! Also managed to hide the cables coming from the lights pretty well with the cable covering kit I bought the other day for 10 bucks^^

This is a custom shelf I made to hide more cables and save space on the desk. I let the microphone’s cable hang loose so whenever someone calls, I just put it up on the desk. I’ll probably look into getting a dock for my iPhone and get rid of the Xstand, but for now, I’m broke.

Making a mess in my bed^^

And of course, the new wireless Apple keyboard! After I spilt a certain alcoholic liquid all over the previous keyboard and killed the b key, I got a wired Apple keyboard. But I got sick of the cable so I decided to buy a new wireless keyboard the other day.

Wireless Apple keyboard + wireless Microsoft Arc mouse is a great combination!

I’m very satisfied with the result, the only thing left to do (besides some very minor things) is putting something up on the wall on the right side of the window. I’m thinking book shelf, but could just as well end up putting up something else, we’ll see!

This is the setup I will be submitting for OTACOOL 3, I’ll use different photos for that though and might’ve made some minor updates by then. Let’s hope my workspace gets featured! :)

LOL It was so obvious when I started reading that you pimped your room for Otacool. xD
I think maybe need more Figurines, the room looks great but not really geeky to me.
What are you going to do with the wired apple keyboard? I could use it. ;)

Haha :P I’m looking into replacing the DVDs I have on the glass shelf with figures and other stuff :) Not the geekiest place of course, but I like it^^ Thanks.

As for the keyboard, I’m not sure if I’m going to sell it or save it in case I spill vodka on my wireless keyboard again :P

It looks great. Makes me think twice about not making myself a great looking workspace.

Thanks! Are you going to submit yours for OTACOOL 3? Did you submit anything for 1 and 2?

Definitely love the new look on your workplace! The lighting sure make everything look soother & calmer. On the old setup I saw a mushroom under your desk. I want to ask.. What’s that? To rest your leg?

Thanks dude^^ I still have that mushroom, it just ended up a little far in so it isn’t visible. I use that mushroom to rest my legs on, it’s good to be able to change your sitting position, so sometimes I use it and sometimes I don’t^^ It’s perfect! You can get one for yourself here for 2100 yen: http://shrsl.com/?~10a

I prefer pigs to mushrooms. I have about a bajillion pigs around my room because I got a few pigs, then people gave me a few pigs because they thought I really loved pigs, and now it’s come to “oh, I have to get Anna a present, and she likes pigs, right, so it’s just the dumb easy thing to get her another pig” so now my room is full of pigs, and I like them ok, but I’m not as obsessed with pigs as you’d think looking in my room, it’s just that everyone has it in their head I like pigs, so they take that easy way in getting me a gift. But I do like fengshui pigs like jade ones, a LOT

Haha :D I’m not really a big fan of mushrooms, I like turtles^^ But we don’t really give each other a lot of presents so I’m good. I would really like to see your room now xD

I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to un-pair my Apple bluetooth keyboard from my MBP and then pair it with my new Lenovo. I was successful, but then found out that my “p” key wasn’t working. So, in a fit of nerd rage, I slammed it into the trash can. I doubt I’ll replace it. The workspaces I typically use are best suited to just using the laptop’s keyboard anyway.

I’m also using the same mouse I bought in early 2007. It’s been holding up really, really well. It’s good on the hand too. I’ve already had to buy off my mom and wife with new mice, to keep them from emotionally blackmailing me into appropriating it.

Did it just stop working for no reason? =/ I used to do everything on my laptop, but it wasn’t optimal, not very ergonomic.

What mouse is that? My Logitech MX500 from 2003 still works perfectly, but I can’t stand corded mice anymore.

Nice setup. Got a roomy/airy feel on it, which does calm the mind, I reckon. Here’s to a successful entry in OtaCool 3, *kanpai* ^^.

It’s from IKEA, I think it’s called Marcus, or maybe it was Michael, I’m not sure^^ Danny’s got it too, actually I think it’s a very popular chair!

Yeah, it’s pretty cozy in here at night, and very nice and bright in the days!

Thanks! The lighting was really bad before, had thoughts on upgrading that for a year or so, quite satisfied with it now. I can take pictures of things at night now, before I had to wait until next morning to get a good shot, haha.

Thanks! Considering how little money I spent on it, I think it’s rather good^^
